Ray's Pizza
About This Spot
Stepping into Ray’s Pizza on Acushnet Avenue feels like sliding into a cherished local ritual. This spot carries the gentle hum of a neighborhood kitchen that’s seen countless slices come and go, each one a small celebration of community and tradition. The pace here isn’t hurried—there’s a steady rhythm as the pizza is crafted with quiet care, a reminder that good things take just a bit of time.
The vibe is straightforward and unpretentious, where the focus is on familiar comforts rather than fuss. Warmth comes through in the simple exchange of greetings, the easy way the staff juggle one busy order after another, and the modest buzz of takeout bags being prepared for the day’s next meal. Ray’s isn’t dining out to impress but rather a reliable place you return to when you want something honest and satisfying.
The menu reads like a love letter to classic tavern-style pizza, thin-crusted and perfect for folding, each slice carrying layers of familiar flavors—from the spicy tang of linguica mingling with pepperoni and sausage to a thoughtfully balanced spinach and feta option for those seeking a fresher tang. Beyond pizza, there’s a gentle nod to comforting sides like tender chicken fingers or a hearty sub, rounding out the feeling of home-cooked ease. It’s a place where a quick catch-up with friends or family over a shared pie feels natural and easy.
Longtime visitors cherish the unchanged spirit of Ray’s, the kind of place where the people behind the counter know your name and remember how you like your order. There’s a quiet pride in upholding a familiar crust style, flavors that work without pretense, and a pace that invites you to savor the moment. Here, a pizza isn’t just food—it’s a thread in the fabric of daily life, quietly stitched into the story of New Bedford.

Very delicious pizza, even better chicken tenders! When we went, it was one person working by himself. He was cranking out 4-9 pizza per order and he was still very kind and polite! Heads up though they only take cash.

I’ve been eating Rays Pizza since the Knotty Pine days. I got a linguica pizza today and I feel like the crust is different. The crust before was like “paper” which I loved. The taste is still great but to me the crust is different. “If it’s not broke…don’t fix it”.

It's a take to go restaurant that's a huge city favorite for pizza, which is a small thin crust "tavern" style pizza. Great taste at great prices with some great tasting dinners and salads also!
